Like all the body's organs, the skin relies on vitamins to function properly. Skin cell growth requires Vitamin A. Retinol is Vitamin A in its purest and most active form. Retinol is found in vegetables and when consumed, is stabilized in the blood. It is transported through the circulatory system bound to a carrier protein. When it finds appropriate cells, like skin keratinocytes, it is transported into the cell.
There it is metabolized in two oxidation steps to retinaldehyde and then finally retinoic acid. Retinoic acid then binds to receptors and activated the cell maturation program in the skin. Applied externally, it penetrates deep into the skin, where it becomes fully operative. It is responsible for increasing cell thickness, thinning the stratum corneum and increasing intercellular fluid.
Retinol not only improves the appearance of existing wrinkles, it also helps to prevent wrinkles. Studies have shown that retinoids counteracts the physiological processes that actually lead to wrinkled, photoaged skin. This product can also be used to treat acne and helps prevent new breakouts.
This product contains retinol that has been stabilized with antioxidants and will provide a consistent activity level with each application. This gentle formula contains an anti-irritant agent to minimize potential irritation typically associated with the use of products containing retinoic acid.
Rose Hip Oil, a source of trans-retinoic acid in a natural bio-available form, has been added into the formula as a tissue hydrator with a high absorbing level, penetrating dry skin almost instantly to restore skin moisture balance.
Directions: Apply a small amount of Retinol Cream into the affected area at bedtime, being careful to avoid the eyes, nostrils and mouth. Wash hands immediately after use. Effects of this Retinol Cream will be gradual with full benefits seen in 2 to 3 months. If used for acne the condition may worsen for 1 to 3 weeks, then eventually improve.
Caution: This product increases your sensitivity to the sun. Limit sun exposure and use an effective sunscreen when outdoors. Use of this product is not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing.
